Foundation stone laid in Pure Village:
“Das Haus” is under construction

Most of the cubes are already standing, the structure that will be shaping Pure Village 2012 is already discernible. A big open space in the middle of Hall 3.2 is the only indication that there’s still something special in the offing. And this is exactly where the foundation stone for koelnmesse’s new design event “Das Haus – Interiors on Stage” is to be laid. A few days before Christmas Eve, the imm cologne’s Creative Director Dick Spierenburg came by to see how things were progressing for himself and clarify the final details with the construction manager.

“I am curious and looking forward to the things that will come to existence here,” Spierenburg admits. “Pure Village shows ideas for living and interiors and presents the best and newest developments. However, nor is it totally unfettered – it always asks practically-oriented questions about how people live in their homes and what their lives are like. We put these questions to Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien, the designers who create “Das Haus”, and asked them to make sure their answers are both feasible and liveable,” the Dutchman explains the concept.

On paper, everything already looks fantastic. The plans show the ideas designer couple Doshi Levien will be implementing in Pure Village at the imm cologne 2012. On a 180 m² platform, koelnmesse is creating an open stage for architectural elements, interior space, colours, fabrics and outdoor spaces, as well as arrangements of furniture and accessories. “Das Haus” is intended to provide the living space for an individually configured interior design – created entirely in accordance with Doshi Levien’s personal preferences.

And now, as the project enters its crucial phase, these ideas are starting to take on concrete shape. Walls have to be put in place, spaces defined and zones created. The rooms have to be fitted out, the furniture and accessories ordered and the logistics coordinated. The first of the exhibits are already in the storerooms, waiting to be arranged and shown off to full advantage. All this hustle and bustle is being overseen by the designers themselves, who will also be on the spot in the final stages to coordinate the final touches.

The realisation of the “Das Haus” project has been made possible thanks to the generous support of The Mix, RAL, NCS Colour and Erco.
