In her lecture at The Stage Birgit Hansen presents the latest trends for the floor. The demands placed on modern flooring are steadily rising. Nowadays, not only must they meet high visual and functional expectations, but in addition they should ideally be produced sustainably. At the same time, surfaces have now become independent of the materials they cover. In times of the perfect “fake”, the dogma of the authenticity of materials has been superseded. Much more important nowadays are, on the one side, the desired appearance and, on the other, a material with the required technical characteristics. New production methods make shapes other than squares and right angles possible. New laying systems accelerate and simplify the processing. Thanks to improvements in materials’ characteristics, the choice of flooring available for the bathroom and outdoor areas has increased. Nanotechnology makes for easier cleaning and better hygiene. And, in future, floors will be intelligent and react to their user.
