The French designer Guillaume Morillon graduated from the Ensaama Olivier de Serres (Paris) in 2009 and from the Design Academy Eindhoven (Netherlands) in 2014. His work is based on experimentations with materials, colours and textures and aims at creating powerful images. Nevertheless, sometimes his work is celebrating the lazy pleasure experienced at the beach. Just like Paresse, a daybed he will be presenting at Pure Talents Contest 2017.

Why did you become a designer?
Because I was enigmatically pulled towards this direction

What was the most unusual place where you ever had a brilliant idea for a new design?
In a submarine.

Do you still need a pencil as a designer today? Or do you work digitally?
I always start with a pen and then I go back and forth between digital and physical work.

Do you have a role model?
Thanks to internet I have a new one pretty much every day.

Does design make you happy?
Design makes me go through all sorts of emotions, sometimes happiness is one of them.

What do you find unsatisfactory in design work?
Failures are mostly unsatisfying finding ways to fix them is way more satisfying.

Is there a design world beyond serial production? And if so, how important is it for you?
Yes, a more collaborative and local structure that is flexible enough to fulfil individual needs.

What can`t you quit while you are working?
When I am working manually I find it hard to stop.

What kind of product needs to be invented urgently?
I believe we need to invent new systems more than new products

What does the imm cologne trade show mean to you?
The place to be in Germany if you want to talk design business.
