With The Stage, the imm cologne is doing more than just providing a central rendezvous for professionals and creative partners in the industry; the forum also has an exciting programme lined up for the public days of the fair. At the weekend, interior designers and design professionals will give end consumers useful tips on interior decor. Some of the weekend’s topics are: interior colour trends (Axel Venn, Julia Hausmann), furniture hacking (Sigurd Larsen), interior decoration with light (Thorsten Moortz), eco-friendly room furnishing (Wibke Schaeffer and Moritz Zielke) and new bathroom materials (Martina Brüßel).

Axel Venn explains how to raise the quality of life through colours

In truth, the best recreation ground in your area is your home – your own four walls, your balcony, your patio, your garden. The interior and exterior of our homes affect what we refer to as our “quality of life”. After all, we each spend at least 65% of our time at home. Axel Venn’s theories are based on his research findings and they include concepts such as the life-filled, health-oriented home environment, in which emotions play a particularly important role. Aided by Venn’s humour, charm and helpful examples, the audience will learn about the right colours to use in the home environment, along with their emotional and sensory characteristics. Axel Venn will also provide insights into the topic of colour psychology and into his new book, “Farben für Körper, Geist und Seele” (Colours for the Body, Mind and Soul).

Martina Brüßel shows how to create a cosy bathroom

Photo: Dreyer

There is hardly a room in the home that has transformed so much in the past decades as the bathroom. The refinement of the bathroom from a purely functional room to a functional living space involved completely new requirements of design. The goal today is to not only utilise the most up-to-date technology in modern design, but rather to incorporate the well-being factor directly into the planning. In her lecture, Martina Brüßel discusses how the megatrends of individualisation, health, smart-being and nature, together with the new use and further development of familiar materials, influence the current interior design trends for the bathroom. She demonstrates this on the basis of bathrooms realised by leading bathroom designers in private home construction.
As the Chief Operating Officer of Aqua Cultura, Martina Brüßel has precise knowledge of current trends in matters revolving around bathroom design. With her consulting and communications agency M Unit, the Bonn native also advises producing companies and their trading partners, especially from the bathroom and heating industries. The qualified economist, with her more than 20 years of industry experience, is in demand as a hostess, author, interview partner and lecturer.

Julia Hausmann about the power of colour to create athmosphere

Colour characterises the atmosphere of our spaces like no other design medium. Current colour and material trends reflect the need for more sensuality in interior design, such as, for example, the return of velvet in the most varied nuances of colour. The title of the lecture of Julia Hausmann has been chosen with a view to the atmospheric film “In the Mood for Love“ from Wong Kar-Wai. Here, colour, light and textiles are used to create effective and sensual spaces that express a longing for warmth, and at the same time demonstrate the masterful handling of colour and patterns in the 1960s. The colour architect demonstrates her own handling of colour in space on the basis of project examples. In the Mood for Colour, so to speak.
Julia Hausmann completed her studies in architecture in 1999 with a diploma in the master class of Prof. Matthias Sauerbruch at the TU Berlin. As a project architect, she subsequently worked for several years in international architecture agencies in the Netherlands, and then moved to Cologne in 2005. Here she worked with a focus on colour and material design at ASTOC Architects and Planners in the fields of urban planning and building construction before founding the Farbarchitektur Julia Hausmann agency in 2015. With her agency, she develops and realises individual colour concepts for architects, companies and private customers.
