After many years of joint development work, Verner Panton and Vitra’s Panton Chair – the first cantilever chair manufactured from a single piece of plastic – was finally ready for series production in 1967. The chair, which was a revolutionary piece both in terms of design and manufacture, was first presented to the public at the imm international interiors show in Cologne in 1968. Fifty years after the original’s presentation, Vitra is issuing two limited editions of the iconic classic in 2018: the Panton Chrome and the Panton Glow.
When he founded his design company in 2007, Cristian Zuzunaga’s aim was to create things that capture and reflect the dynamism of modern life. He is inspired by the modern architecture of major cities such as London, Barcelona, New York and Shanghai. At imm cologne 2017, he aims to show how the digital world can be drawn on to create space for vitality.
In 2002, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec created a module shelf system, reminiscent of a cloud, that can be grouped into clusters or large-scale configurations. Eight tubular cavities pierce the flat surfaces of the modular element while also defining the form’s outer contours. Now the designers had picked up this shape again to create the vases Nuage for Vitra.

Swedish architect Nils Strinning had originally designed the String System in 1949 as bookshelves for the living room. Today, the timeless shelves can be used for any purpose – in all rooms and in all parts of the home.
The imm cologne is a business trade fair. Only that which is completely developed, sophisticated in terms of its production technology, tested and found to be ready for the market finds its way here. And that’s a quality criterion that has its own fascination. The Furnishing Cologne campaign, which is already in its fifth year, shows how inspiring the dichotomy of perfection and improvisation can be.
Whether they are made of paper or vinyl, create a wood or stone effect, or are striped, patterned or solid-coloured – wall coverings lend a room a unique atmosphere and, like furniture, can be an element of design. And with a bit of courage and skill, walls can be transformed into true works of art.

Imagine sitting outdoors in a lazy big sofa, enjoying the good weather, funky drinks, a nice rest or a good conversation: who doesn’t love that? What a shame that we have drag around cushoins and pillows or that we have to hide our beatiful outdoor sofa away under a cover to protect it from the elements. Why not just sit back and relax?
