Relationship between people and objects:
Pure Talents Contest 2018

Do we actually need furniture, or is it furniture that needs us? This year it was 3/4 striking how many young designers addressed the relationship between man and object: our era, the users themselves and almost forgotten craftsmanship – all this takes on a shape in this year’s winning entries for the Pure Talents Contest. Two of them we present today: Yohay Alush from Israel and Xiang Guan from China.

The internationally renowned Pure Talents Contest has already provided a career springboard for many young designers. In the last 14 years, over 500 nominated gifted designers have presented more than 400 products during the international interiors show, imm cologne. And, after the seven-day presentation at the trade fair, many nominees have succeeded in having their designs featured in the collections of renowned furniture manufacturers. This time we present the French-Dutch designer duo Pierre Alexandre Cesbron und Matthieu Muller with its furniture series Liga and the Israel based designer Irena Artzi Mirer and her Stained Carpet.

On the first 15th January 2018, the moment arrives one again: The imm cologne opens its doors and on that day the young talent competition Pure Talents Contest will take place for the 15th time. Young design talents from all over the world can present themselves and their prototypes on an exhibition at the Cologne interior fair. At the news blog, we introduce the products of this anniversary event and let the creatives themselves have their say. Let’s start with Sofia Souidi and her product Gradient and with the design trio Arends, Bucher, Kim and their table Fold It.
