Similarly, the light needed to prepare a meal properly in the kitchen will very definitely not work for the intimate dinner that follows. And in the bathroom, too, there are many different lighting needs at different times of the day. New technologies and the products developed with them can imitate the circadian rhythm of daylight and support people in their home lives – this is a growth market.

What does the future hold for LEDs? Are OLEDs already obsolete? And will new laser lighting technology be adopted? The lighting segment is always evolving, with innovations regularly being unveiled. And developments in the smart homes segment are certainly also making a contribution. But efficient use of light, intelligent controls and furniture combined with lighting are also causing a stir in the market. OMLED Round: when the square becomes a circle

OLEDs are a relatively recently developed illuminant. The technology is predominantly used in TVs, smartphones and tablets. But OMLED luminaires also employ OLEDs. Their new lamps go by the name of OMLED Round and transform glare-free light from the light-emitting diodes – which are in fact square – to give the light source a circular appearance.

Lucie Koldova is guest of honor of Das Haus 2018. The young Czech designer from Prague is known for her extraordinary flair in designing lighting fixtures and lighting effects. For the seventh year running, the international interiors show imm cologne has invited an international designer to use architecture, interior design and furniture in a simulated house in order to make a personal statement about contemporary living.

In 2018 imm cologne presents the new trade fair format Pure Architects for the first time. The two themes of bathrooms and smart homes will be major focal points in this segment. With the interactive Smart Home installation, imm cologne is not only turning its attention to an important future issue, but showing live how new technologies are having an impact on the design of living spaces – and how interior design is responding. For exhibitors from the bathrooms sector, Pure Architects offers a unique opportunity to present their creative ideas for modern bathrooms in the context of an international interiors show.

[D3] Design talents: imm cologne’s competition format for promoting newcomers celebrates 10th anniversary

d3_2012 The imm cologne‘s talent show D3 Design talents is a constant for trade visitors and anyone with an interest in design. The exhibition of winning entries from the international newcomer competition D3 Contest is particularly popular. Thanks to the good framework conditions, the professional execution and the sophisticated presentation of the winners at the heart of the imm cologne, the D3 Contest is highly regarded amongst established designers as well. In particular, the trade fair’s commitment to supporting the participants and the selective presentation guarantee a first-class exhibition. At the coming furnishing fair, the platform for young designers will be celebrating its first two-digit anniversary.

For ten years now, the imm cologne has been providing young designers with a forum where they can present their ideas for furniture, home accessories, lighting, floor coverings, wallpapers, textiles and other forward-looking furnishing items to an international public: the D3 Contest. For the coming imm cologne, 671 products were entered from more than 40 countries – convincing evidence of the competition’s international standing.

Pure Village – also in 2012 an innovative design platform

As its success at the international interior design show imm cologne 2011 showed, Pure Village is not just an innovative, forward-looking trade fair format, it is a sign of the times as well. Today interior design is a holistic assignment that incorporates furniture systems and individual pieces, colour concepts, lighting design and luminaires, continuous materials for floors and walls as well as technical equipment. And yet holism and homogeneous design concepts don’t automatically mean boredom. Modern man lives and grows with his interior: he seeks the special, the exciting, the personal, he combines neutral basic furnishings with unusual one-offs or heirlooms; besides technical equipment, he is again attaching importance to furniture and textiles that have been manufactured in old artisanal tradition and deliberately factors in a certain amount of latitude that allows scope for variations and reconfigurations. Thinking in norms was yesterday, today we’re looking for inspiration. With its unconventional combinations, a mix of interior product ranges with their excellent design quality as the only common denominator and a communication-fostering hall and booth architecture, Pure Village provides the ideal platform for promoting product concepts for this lifestyle.

The compact format of Pure Village, where the exclusive neighbourhood and cultural diversity are condensed into the kind of inspiring mix otherwise found in the heart of a city, holds equal appeal for exhibitors and visitors alike. And so the presentation format launched last year was able to score points in round two as well: once again, Hall 3.2 of Cologne Exhibition Centre was booked out with numerous exhibitors from all areas of interior design. A colourful mix of furniture for all kinds of living space, for the bedroom, outdoors and bathroom, in combination with accessories, home entertainment, lighting, colours, wallpapers and floor coverings, ensured plenty of variety and a heterogeneous neighbourhood.

150 years Ligne Roset, Happy Birthday – see you at imm cologne 2011!

From artisan to international guarantor for innovative furniture design: in 2010, family enterprise Ligne Roset is celebrating its 150th birthday and involving its fans in the celebrations with exhibitions and special offers, re-editions and limited editions, including a limited reissue of Pierre Paulin’s Pumpkin armchair from 1971.

Antoine Roset founded the company in Montagnieu in1860 and started out producing walking sticks and sunshades until changing demand led him to adapt the product range, initially from chair legs to chairs, then to wooden furniture and, in the second generation, upholstered and leather furniture. In the 1950s and 60s, the booming contract business enabled the company to expand considerably.

The integration of design resulted in icons such as the Togo floor cushion and established the cult image of the Ligne Roset brand, which was launched in 1973. Today the 5th generation of Rosets are active in the family company. Besides seating and storage furniture, the product repertoire also includes accessories, lighting and home textiles. The company enjoys international standing for its award-winning, functional design and is renowned not only for its classics but for promoting young designers, too.

The kitchen returns to Cologne! International kitchen show LivingKitchen to be held in Cologne from 18th to 23rd January 2011

From 18th to 23rd January 2011 – parallel to the imm cologne – the international kitchen trade fair LivingKitchen® will be held in Cologne for the first time. The international kitchen show will be an independent event that takes place every two years in Halls 4.2 and 5.2 of Koelnmesse Exhibition Centre.

The show will have three Public Days and bring together national and international exhibitors from the entire kitchen industry. Even now, one year before the event, numerous leading companies have registered to take part. The complete list can be viewed at
